Jade Plant Care Guide

Light: Start your little succulent off with minimal, indirect light. This will help prevent the scorching and burning of their leaves. As it grows a bit older, you can move it somewhere with a bit more light. This will enable it to grow fully. A south-facing window is best.

Watering: As previously mentioned, Jade Plant Care states that it is better to underwater than overwater. Water only when the soil is completely dry, and water sparingly. Too much water can cause damage to the leaves and rotting in the soil.

Soil: Ensure you have well-draining soil. The roots do not grow very large or deep so do not feel like you need to have a great big pot for one small succulent. Keep the top of the soil clean and nice to deter pests.

Temperature: The temperature range is quite wide when it comes to the Jade Plant. It can withstand anywhere from 13-26 Celsius. Feel free to adjust Jade Plant watering around the height of the temperature.

Humidity: These succulents prefer lower humidity areas. Do not feel that you have to mist them as they can take up all the water that they need from the soil. Keep them in whatever room you like, but open spaces and by windows are great places for these wonderful plants.

Fertilizer: You can feed the Jade Plant up to once a week with a weak solution in the growing season. This will help it grow much taller. You can also feed it with a controlled-release fertilizer as the growing season starts, around early springtime.

Pruning: Avoid pruning until the plant is well-grown. This will give your plant the best chance of width as well as height when it comes to growing. After a couple of years, feel free to prune as you wish. Adding a growing pole can help to control the succulents' growth as well.

Propagating: One of the best things about Jade Plant Care indoors is the ease of propagation. They are widely known for their simple propagation process. This process can be done in two ways.

With a cutting: Take a cutting around 2 inches long that is clean and free from disease. Allow it to dry in a cool and dry place. Place the wound in a hormone-rooting powder. Place this end in a pot of soil that is half perlite half soil. Water gently making sure the soil is always a little damp. Once the roots start to grow and the plant sprouts, care for it as a regular Jade Plant.

With a leaf: Cut a leaf with its stem. Leave it in a cool dry place until it has scabbed over. Dip the wound end in hormone-rooting powder. Place it on top of the soil (it does not need to be buried). Keep in a bright place with a bit of water until the roots grow. Once this has happened, treat it as a regular Jade Plant.

Repotting: You will only need to repot these plants every 2 years for smaller versions, and 5 years for bigger versions. Due to their minimal root structure, a much larger plant is not needed every time. Consider something that is between 2-4 inches bigger than the previous one.
