Pothos plants are one of the best houseplants in the world. Pothos varieties are great for all sorts of indoor plant purposes - they are great decorations, fantastic air purifiers, as well as being super easy to care for. Whether you live in a sunny, delightful region of the world or a cold and rainy one, you can grow pretty much all pothos varieties.

Don’t get confused between Pothos and Philodendrons. They have similar-shaped leaves but have subtle differences. We are going to outline some key characteristics of Pothos plants, how to identify them, and some history behind them. We will then showcase our absolute favorite Pothos plants that you can grow in your home!

Pothos plants are a type of vine. They grow in a thick, bushy collection and tend to droop down. They have long, thin stems that hold scores of their little dark green leaves. These plants tend to enjoy growing downwards, drooping over whatever plant pot they find themselves in. They are a favorite for homes with high ceilings, big kitchens, and more.

Pothos plants can live for up to around 10 years if kept correctly and we will highlight some key care tips for you to be able to keep your Pothos happy and healthy that entire time! After our care section, we will move onto our favorite Pothos plants. You can order all of these plants at our online store and they’ll be delivered straight to your door!

General Pothos Care Tips

Light:

Pothos plants like indirect sunlight. They can live on low-light conditions and partial shade, though you want to avoid an area where there is direct sunlight. Direct sunlight can cause their leaves to burn. Having too much shade can influence their leaf color as well so be aware that that is a potential problem!

Water:

You shouldn’t need to water more than every two weeks in the colder months. In the growing season, ie Spring and Summer, water around once a week. They like living in continuously damp soil, though not drowning in it.

Humidity:

These plants like living in pretty humid conditions. They will thrive in a kitchen area where there is increased periods of heat. Keep them away from major draft areas.

Fertilizer:

Pothos plants aren’t heavy feeders so they will only need a feed once a month in the growing season. If they look fine and healthy then you can probably skip this stage.

Common Pothos Care Issues:

Brown leaves - Brown leaves can be caused by too much or too little watering. Brown leaves that are crisp showcase a lack of humidity.

Drooping leaves - Drooping leaves are a sign that your plant is stressed and is being underwatered. Give your plant a deep watering and monitor the soil moisture.
